Masters of Photography-Robert Frank

Robert Frank(1924- ) is an American photographer who's most notable for his black and white photos of people. Frank was born in Switzerland but grew up in America, where he later took many of his photos.
I chose Robert Frank as a master photographer because his photos are very unique and show a deeper side to the harsh realities of American life. His pictures are unique in that they not only portray black and white colors in fine detail but capture a precious moment in time. His photos have inspired me to appreciate the fine lines in life and to treasure the ordinary moments in life more.

"Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected."

Lens NY Times GracieChan p.3 #7

Picture 6
#6
I think this is the best photo because of a few components.
1. This photo clearly demonstates the rule of thirds.
2. The colors are very vibrant and blended.
3. It's well composed and shows the main elements of the photo( the lights and festivity among the ruins).
4.  This picture captures a joyous time in a poverty stricken world.
5. The blue light illuminates the background.
6. The cluttering mess in the picture looks collective and you don't notice it among everything.
7. Since this picture was taken over a continuous amount  of time, you could somewhat see the different lights and people over time.
8. In this photo, there were a range of different blue colored lights. They showed pictures of shining
Lights among the shacks which represented te festivity of the parade.

Depth of Field

As you can see, there are different buildings in this picture. In this picure, the lines are very definite and you can see different 'layers' popping out' from the background.

Warrior Pride ft. Pavi

Shallow Depth of Field Lines
In this photo, you can immediately point out that there is a line in the center. This balances out the picture so that there's two halves of the picture.

Ambiguous : Shadows

Shadows

There's many elements in this photo; the shadows contrasting the light, the lines that make out the locker, and the colors that blend together. The light bounces off the lockers and the subject's face.
Shadows dramatize the subject, but not so much so it completely drowns out the photo.

Third Photo Assignment-Third Rule

Freedom.
Rule of Thirds
In this photo, you can most noticeably see the subject and the sunset. The contrasting colors make the subject pop out as well as the bright colors in the middle.
Using the Rule of Thirds, we can tell that there are nine sections equally divided among the picture.  The main points of the picture are highlighted using the rule of thirds.  The imaginary lines in this photo balances the composition of the photo.
If we take the photo and cut it into nine parts, we will see that the main parts are highlighted.

1. Rule 1: Lines
2. Rule 2: Shadows

3. Rule 3:Rule of Thirds
